En Peasants Open VI

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's official. The club has its first ever TWO TIME TOURNAMENT CHAMPION! Congratulations to Xavxav2, who pulled off an impressive 2.5/3 and won on tiebreak against Doyoulikecurry. Impressive turnout of seven club members, with four previous champions in the mix. This was our first trial of an evening tournament.

Let's have a look at Xav's journey to the title!

Round 1 vs UnironicStonewall:

Round 1 saw Xav come up against club veteran UnironicStonewall, who he dispatched with apparent ease after an early piece blunder by White. The game featured a London System opening, and was converted swiftly into a win for black by checkmate on the 25th move. Impressive start for Xav!

Round 2 vs RAR150:

Round two for Xav was another favourable match-up, with his opponent being RAR150. Featuring a Vienna Gambit (accpeted), black was worse from a very early start. Xav capitalised well on this, and checkmated his opponent on just the 14th move. RAR150 won't be making that mistake again!

Round 3 vs Moomoo314:

All eyes were on the final matchup, with a tense, even game between Xav and last week's champion, MooMoo314. Both players, depending on the match's result, could take gold, as well as club admin Doyoulikecurry. This was a high accuracy 37 move game, featuring a Dutch Defence in response to d4. Both players played quite conservatively, with piece trades making this a relatively uninspiring position. The players agreed to a draw on move 37, giving Xav the tournament win!
