Get Ready: Chess.com Seirawan Chess Championship Starts Thursday, October 2
Dear Variant Fans,
Get ready for the next 2025 Chess.com Community Championships event! This month, the Seirawan Chess Championship takes place October 2-3, and players can compete for a $2,500 prize fund.
Seirawan Chess is the brainchild of GM Yasser Seirawan and FM Bruce Harper. The variant introduces two powerful new pieces to the classic game. The hawk, with the combined powers of a bishop and knight, and the formidable elephant, blending rook and knight movement.
As usual, the two-day event will have eight qualifiers on Day 1 and the knockout Final on Day 2.
Qualifiers on October 2
- There are eight arena qualifiers.
- Each qualifier is a 75-minute arena.
- The time control is 3+2.
- The winner of each arena qualifies for the Final.
- Players already qualified for the final cannot play in subsequent qualifiers.

Knockout Final on October 3
- Eight-player double-elimination knockout.
- The time control is 3+2.
- Each match consists of four games.
- If the match ends in a tie, players contest 1+2 games until there's a winner.
