Next Up: 3Check and Crazyhouse Are Moving to Chess.com/Variants
Dear Variant Fans,
Following the successful transition of the King of the Hill (KOTH) variant to Chess.com/Variants (announcement here), the next variants making the move are 3Check and Crazyhouse.
As part of this transition, official recurring 3Check and Crazyhouse arenas and Swiss tournaments will no longer be scheduled on the main (live) server.
As we mentioned last time, this is in line with Chess.com's broader shift in how variants are supported and delivered, as outlined in the official announcement here: Heads Up: Chess Variants Are Moving to chess.com/variants.
In the coming days, 3Check and Crazyhouse will be fully sunset from the main server. But just like KOTH, both will remain fully playable and supported on Chess.com/variants, where a passionate community continues to enjoy a wide range of creative and competitive formats.
A few important notes:
- Your past games from the main server will remain in your archive.
- When you play your first game on the Chess.com/Variants, you’ll be prompted to transfer your variant rating, so you can pick up right where you left off.
- After the transition, only Chess.com staff will be able to schedule variant club tournaments.

If you’re a club admin and want to keep hosting tournaments in 3Check, Crazyhouse, or other variants, please reach out to the team:
- Join the 4PC/Variants Community Discord
- Join the Custom Variants Club and post in the club forums to connect with admins
We encourage all 3Check and Crazyhouse fans to jump in, play some games, and help keep the spirit of these awesome variants alive and thriving in their new home!
