Chess pieces back on board

7/05/2008 THE Macquarie Street Mall giant chess pieces are back. Liverpool Council on Monday delivered new pieces, to replace the old ones. Council believes the old pieces may have been stolen as a prank by youngsters. As a result, for weeks now Liverpool's chess players and there's plenty of them have still been turning up to the mall to play chess but they've had to bring along their own chess boards. The giant ground board, though, was definitely missed, at least as one of the the main attractions in the Mall. The council said it was a challenge replacing the giant chess pieces, but eventually new ones were made.
