GRCC Chess Club Meeting Minutes Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 2:30-3:30 PM

Attendance: Brian Beecher (Lead Advisor), Joey Day, Ja’Von Fields (President), Mike Klawitter (Co-Advisor), Jai Mahabir (Vice-President), Carrie Rister, Abraham Santos (Secretary), Morgan West (Treasurer).

1. The meeting was called to order at 2:33 PM.
2. The GRCC Chess Club Constitution was distributed.
3. New Business
   1. It was reported that we have 12 GRCC students in our membership.
   2. Nominations for officers commenced. Four students were needed for the open positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Students announced the position for which they were running and the reason why they were interested in the position. Since a quorum was present, voting occurred. We congratulate the following people on their positions:    
      1. President: Ja’Von Fields
      2. Vice-President: Jai Mahabir
      3. Secretary: Abraham Santos
      4. Treasurer: Morgan West
   3. Morgan West volunteered to be the club’s delegate who will attend the Student Alliance meetings. Ja’Von and Abraham will be alternate delegates when needed.
   4. It was decided that meetings will be held once per month on the second Wednesday of the month from 2:30-3:30 PM.
   5. We will hold open chess in GRCC Library on Wednesdays (2:30-3:30 PM) or anytime we’re open if you bring your opponent with you.
   6. Possible purchases such as additional chess sets, a digital DGT board, and instructional DVDs were discussed. It was decided that two additional USCF chess sets will be purchased for $25 each (from Amazon). Brian will make arrangements for the purchase (using the library’s Amazon account) and a budget transfer will occur between the office of student life (Chess Club allocation) and the Library.
   7. All other items were tabled to the next meeting.
