Dear Chess Friends!

Not every position in chess is sharp or filled with tactical fireworks. In fact, many of the most important games are decided in quiet, simple positions where precision and strategic thinking matter more than calculation.

This Sunday, I’ll be hosting a new workshop “How to Play Simple Positions.” I will show how to evaluate and play positions without obvious tactics — often arising in endgames or simplified middlegames — where plans and structure take center stage.

🗓 Date: 07/27
Time: 11 a.m. EDT, 4 p.m. UK time, 5 p.m. CET

During this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to evaluate quiet positions based on pawn structure, piece quality, and coordination
  • Common attacking ideas: creating weaknesses, occupying open files, and building passed pawns
  • Defensive plans: exchanging weaknesses, neutralizing activity, and building fortress-like setups
  • When to simplify and how to transition into a favorable endgame
  • Why even “simple” positions offer rich opportunities for creative and precise play

Why should you attend?
The ability to navigate simple positions without relying on tactical tricks is a key marker of chess maturity. Understanding how to build plans, improve pieces, and play for small advantages is what makes the difference in long, equal games.

Register now and receive the Zoom-link before the event! Your participation is absolutely free, you just need to register here: https://chesslance.com/masterclass/

See you at the workshop,
FM Viktor Neustroev
