The Hedgehog System
Dear Chess Friends!
Some positions in chess are deceptive by design — calm on the surface, yet full of dynamic potential underneath. The Hedgehog System is a perfect example.
In this week's workshop, we’ll take a closer look at this compact and flexible chess structure. Characterized by Black's pawn structure with ...a6, ...b6, ...d6, and ...e6, the Hedgehog invites White to expand in space — but it’s often Black who strikes when the time is right.
This session will focus on a specific scenario: when White supports their center with f3. On the surface, it’s a solid, logical move. But it changes everything — for both sides.
🗓 Date: 07/13
⏰ Time: 11 a.m. EDT, 4 p.m. UK time, 5 p.m. CET
During this session, you’ll learn:
- The pros and cons of White playing f3 against the Hedgehog
- How the f3-pawn restricts the b7-bishop but weakens the kingside
- How Black can exploit dark-square weaknesses with piece maneuvers and pressure on h2
- Why both sides have dynamic chances and no plan is universally better
Why should you attend?
The Hedgehog System is about deep understanding, rather than quick tactics. Whether you're playing it with Black or facing it with White, after this workshop you will learn how to handle flexible positions, react to space advantages, and coordinate your pieces with purpose.
