Multiplying Numbers Lower than the Base

Example: 97 x 98

In this this problem, the deviation of 97 and 98 from the nearest base (100) is -03 and -02 respectively.

To obtain the last part of the answer simply, multiply both deviations to get 06

Then the first part of the answer is obtained by adding 97 and -02 or 98 and -03, which gives us 95. 

Therefore the answer is: 9506
