Dear Silverdale Chess Club Players, Families and Friends,
There are many things to be thankful for in our first full-year of hosting the Silverdale Chess Club at Moment Brewing. We are thankful to owner and master brewer, Brad Maupin, for his hospitality and delicious melts and libations.
We are thankful for the large screen video display that has connected club members with Grandmasters Melik Khachiyan (Coach of the U.S. Women's Chess Team), famous chess instructor and chess humorist Grandmaster Ben Finegold, and International Arbiter Judit Sztaray, who keeps chess law and order around the world, upholding the rules of the game while resolving disputes among the world's top players.
And we are thankful for our fellow members who bring their chess talents and good sportsmanship to bear on every get together.
Now, as a very special treat in the days before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Silverdale Chess Club is proud to welcome another honorary chess dignitary, International Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan, a four-time U.S. Chess Champion, World Junior Champion, best-selling chess author and an official commentator as well as a spokesperson of the St. Lous Chess Club covering the world's premier chess events.
Yaz was the highest rated American player on 19 monthly FIDE rating lists between July 1982 and January 2002.
He was the “second” to World Championship Challenger Victor Korchnoi when Korchnoi was training for his 1981 world title match against Anatoly Karpov.
HIs stellar record of tournament winnings and appearances has included medal winning play for the U.S. Olympic Team in no fewer than 10 Chess Olympiads. He was inducted into the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame in 2006.
