World Cup Fever — More Prize Giveaways!
Dear Silverdale Chess Club Players, Families and Friends,

The 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup is underway in the coastal state of Goa, India, from October 30 to November 27. The event takes place at Resort Rio in Arpora and features 206 players from 80 countries competing for a share of the USD $2,000,000 prize fund and three spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournament. The tournament uses a knock-out format, making every game a high-stakes, win-or-go-home battle.

The "Top 25" seeds on the men’s side this year represent the “Who's Who” of Super Grandmasters." The orange lines indicate those who have already been knocked out, including the remarkable GM Wesley So who made the mistake of resigning his second round game in a drawn position.

Magnus Carlsen is not playing in the 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup, citing motivational issues and a preference for faster chess formats. He won the 2023 tournament but is not a participant in the 2025 event.
To celebrate the World Cup, this weekend we’re continuing with our Chess Life Magazine Giveaway breaking out a new crate featuring several new decades in the archives ion chest history.  Just answer the easy trivia questions being conjured up and add some fine magazines to your chess library.

Among the  next-gen players are Americans Abhimanyu Mishra (the youngest player in history to become a Grandmaster) and Andy Woodward (this year’s winner of the Junior’s Closed US Championship) who had a spectacular run at the recent FIDE Grand Swiss in Samarkand, finishing 5th and 7th respectively.

World Rapid Champion, 19-year-old Volodar Murzin, who is on the path of reaching 2700 ELO (currently at 2670), also got an invite, alongside 28-year-old Kirill Alekseenko (represent.
ing Austria), a participant of the 2020/21 Candidates tournament and a well-known player at strong individual and team events. The youngest joiner is 11-year-old Faustino Oro, the Argentinian prodigy often called the “Messi of Chess” and considered one of the most promising young talents in the game.
The Silverdale Chess Club meets on Saturdays from 2:30-4:30 at Moment Brewing, 10876 Myhre Pl NW Suite 112, Silverdale, WA 98383
