Michigan Chess Association
This Saturday, November 11 there is a USCF/MCA tournament in Lansing. The U900/Unrated section (which I think applies to everyone including me) is $28 to enter, along with any membership fees (I think USCF is $40/year and MCA is $10/year which gets you all the tournaments you can play for the whole year)
The time control is G30d5 which in case you're not familiar with the short hand means you start with 30minutes on your clock and get a 5 second delay each turn (you don't start to lose time until 5 seconds elapses but it is not possible to gain time such as the more common "bonus" time control that chess.com uses).
It is a 5 round swiss tournament, so you'll get 5 games no matter what. (However if you leave, you can request byes and such so that unplayed games don't effect your rating etc).
I know it can sound a little intimidating if you've not done it before, but it really is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!
