Mosquitoes Battle Towers in First Playoffs Round

After 7 rounds of preliminaries this Wednesday the PRO Chess League will enter a new phase: the play-offs. Out of the 48 participating teams 24 have qualified. The best 8 teams will start the play-offs with a bye, while the other 16 face each other. Amsterdam Mosquitoes will be combating the London Towers in the first round. This match surely promises fireworks, so be sure to tune in to our live stream on twitch starting Wednesday 20:45 CET!

The Mosquitoes will play all 4 rounds with the same squad, while the Towers will substitute IM Ghasi for IM Rendle halfway the match. Based on FIDE rating the Mosquitoes are the favorites, especially as their 3th place in the regular season ahead of Towers 6th will guarantee them proceeding to next round in case of a 8-8 tie.

All players have competed in previous rounds of the PRO Chess League. Below their records are listed. Mosquitoes board 2 GM Spoelman's record of 9,5/12 is impressive. However, GM Gawain Jones has achieved exactly the same score against even stronger opposition!
