NSPCL Qualifier, Round 2

After destroying The Four Knights 4-1, we have set ourselves up very nicely to make the top 20 in the qualifiers and advance to the regular season. We may even get in if we somehow lose both of our next 2 matches, but a win or draw would guarantee we get in. This week we take on the Philippine Chess Pirates, who won their first match 4.5-0.5. Their ratings are deceiving, don't underestimate them.

Statistically, each of us is favored to win. But, all of our opponents seem underrated, to an extent. Their b3 and b4, for example, are both below 1070 rapid, but both play well above their ratings. A 5-0 win is possible, but we shouldn't take them lightly. Underrated or not, we are better than them, no reason for us to lose. Let's get another dub.

The Chessical Destroyers had a rough debut in the NSPCL, getting hammered by the Dream Team Destroyers 4-1. Not much to say there, it is what it is. Any losses in the qualifiers don't matter so long as you make it to the regular season. Once there, everyone is 0-0. This week, CD has a more favorable matchup with Farmer Ferrell's Fantastic Four, as CD is higher rated on each of the top 4 boards, and board 5 is quite underrated.

While CD had a rough loss, The Dream Team PROdigies arguably had it rougher. It was a close 3-2 loss to the Terrifying Thrashers, but it wasn't the loss that hurt so much as the way it happened. It was tied 2-2, as their were 2 forfeit draws and 2 played games resulting in a win for each team. Unfortunately, DTP's b2 stopped negotiating and lost by forfeit to TT's b2. Losing by forfeit is terrible, not much of a worse way to lose. All the same, they will get an easier matchup this week against Tiger Club, who failed to win a single game last week. DTP is seemingly favored on boards 3-5, at least.

Welp, there are the pairings and stuff! This week's matches are extended because of the holidays, so we've got 20 days to play the games. Also, similar to last week, I will be offline for a while, again. This time I'll be offline from the 18th-23rd, and will hardly be online on the 24th or 25th except to say merry Christmas. Why? I'll be playing otb in NC. 9 rounds of 90|30 chess, and a bunch of high rated players. Scary. Anyway, go ahead, go negotiate a time to play your opponent. Let's end 2020 by taking 3 wins, 1 for each CP team! Happy Holidays!
