Opening Lesson: Fercec Gambit
I am now starting a series of chess lessons on certain openings where I explain the theory and tactics behind the moves and what to do in the most common lines. I am going to constantly update this page and many other's in the 'Opening Lesson' series, so look out for updates.
Let's first start with the line you will probably come across most:
Notice that previously when I showed this opening I recommended moving the f pawn first but recently I found out that it's far more effective to move the bishop beforehand.
Note that if they move Nf3 instead of Bf4 it's not always guaranteed that they will play the London System like in this example:
Even though this position is different, it still works. There are many ways to respond to this variation but my personal favorite is the Albin Counter-Gambit:
Now let's get back to the London System. The strongest response that I have found to the gambit was going Nd2 instead of e3:
It may look like you're out of ideas in this position but surprisingly there are still a few more tricks you have to gain the upper hand:
Now you have converted what seemed like a lost position into a winning one by making your opponent waste time by moving their pieces around, putting you ahead in development. There are actually so many tactics that you can come up with in this position, here's one that I came up with:
Depending on what your opponent does, there are so many ways to trap them but that first knight move is very vital and after that, you can come up with whatever you want.
