Pirc Defense

The Pirc defense is built around not gaining control of the center, and instead developing minor pieces. As seen below black barely pushes any of his or her pawns while white tries to gain as much control as possible. The advantage the Pirc has is that black can make good use of both bishops. On the contrary, other defense that black can play use only the black bishop. By pushing the D pawn, black can unleash his or her white square bishop later in the game.
