On this particular night before a Chess Club Saturday on Thanksgiving weekend, the score is tied at 2-2 in the World Chess Championship between the title holder, Ding Liren, and the challenger, Gukesh Domararaju. Round five will be played at 1AM Pacific time.
Ding won the first game on the black side of a French Defense, followed by a drawn Italian Game, and then a win by Gukesh in the Queen’s Gambit Accepted, followed by another draw in an unusual opening with 1. Nf3, 3.b3 with 4.Ba3! that ended with only Kings and four pawns left on the board.
We’ll take a look at the games at the Chess Club today along with causal play on this Thanksgiving weekend.
Pictured below are Isaiah and Sadie Keech, two of the challengers in the Jr. Division of the Chess Club Rapid Chess Tournament. Seated behind them is the winner of the Jr. Division, Charlie Brown, who received his medal in the previous week.
Congratulations to all!
