Puzzles for week 20
Welcome, fellow Red Army members!
Are you aware......
that .......
this........
is...........
the Red Army Weekly Puzzles'
(RAWP, pronounced ROP)
20th annivesary?!
Alright! Maybe it isn't the 20th annivesary,
but it sure is the 20th week the Red Army
has provided top-quality puzzles
(much better than dailypuzzle, huh?)
for the Red Army members.
Without the spirit of Manchester United
(MU, Man U, whatever you call it!!),
it wouldn't have been posssible.
Anyway, as a special, this week's puzzles will be all based on doubled pawns (as in doubled=twenty, you get me?). Hey, I spent all night coming up with this!
In the endgame, pawns and Kings become strong players which determine the very result of the game. Therefore, when it comes to promoting pawns, you really need to know the tricks. Don't get fooled, and outwit others!
Another thing to bear in mind is that the King's chances of getting stalemated is even higher. Many people have underestimated it and as a result, have met with a sad fate of stalemate. Trapping the King is an advantage, mind you, but only if you know the tricks, once again.
In these puzzles, which are based on the Doubled pawns/Tripled pawns/Quadrupled pawns study , the Kings are busy on another side of the board trying to concentrate on a "friendly" game of chess(as in friendly matches. They call it friendly, but often it's quite nasty). Meanwhile, their underlings are on the far end of the board trying to promote to Queen. The tricky part is that Black's King is trapped and if the pawns end up not being able to move, Black will jump and cry
"YES! STALEMATE!!!!"
White must play the right moves and promote a pawn into a Queen and chekmate at the same time.
So.......
can you do it?
~Good luck to you!~
