Did you know Seattle was awarded the Best Chess City 2023 by the US Chess Federation at the US Open in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Seattle, Washington has experienced tremendous growth in chess interest in recent years. From the grand opening of the Detective Cookie chess park last summer to hosting the 2023 Pan Ams in early 2023, the thriving Seattle chess scene provides opportunities for chess aficionados of all ages and experience levels to interact and build community through the game of chess. Social chess gatherings offered by multiple bars and pubs throughout the city have seen a huge surge in chess, and they attract players from beginners to master level on a weekly basis. Several new chess clubs have started up in the greater Seattle area to accommodate the influx of new players, many of whom have just started playing competitive chess this year. Through the efforts of the Amazon Chess Club, Seattle has established itself as a hub for corporate and collegiate chess events on a global scale. Seattle is delighted to accept the Chess City of the Year honor and will continue to support and promote chess in the years to come!"
