Sosnick Chess Festival at UC Davis on April 10-12
Greetings Fellow Chess Players!
The 5th annual Stephen Sosnick Memorial Chess Festival returns to UC Davis on April 10th, 11th and 12th. The weekend kicks off with a Grandmaster simultaneous exhibition on Friday evening and continues with two separate one-day USCF rated chess tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, with game commentary and analysis on the side. Players may attend 1, 2 or all 3 days.
Popular Grandmaster and 3-time US Champion Joel Benjamin will entertain the crowd all weekend. Now a renowned author, scholastic teacher and coach for players at all levels, Benjamin competed against the world's best at the Chess Olympiads and consulted for IBM's computer Deep Blue in the 1990s. Show him your games or ask him your hardest chess questions.
The format remains similar to previous years, except that participants may choose from five different rating sections instead of four.
* Friday evening Grandmaster Benjamin simul (25 boards maximum, check-in 6:00-6:25)
* Saturday Action tourney: 5 rounds G/30 + 10 sec increment (USCF regular rated, check-in 8:30)
* Sunday Rapid tourney: 7 rounds G/15 + 10 sec increment (USCF quick rated, check-in 8:30)
* Extras: free GM lectures both days at lunch plus game analysis, puzzle contest, food truck
