THE CELTIC LEAGUE (CL)
I am delighted to announce that an exciting new Daily Chess League has just been launched.
This new tournament will bring together Clubs within the 6 core Celtic Nations of Modern times: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, the Isle of Man, and Cornwall, together with:
Clubs drawn from European countries whose territories have historic links to Celtic Tribal peoples;
Plus, the Celtic diaspora: Clubs with a Celtic affiliation through cultural ties, heritage, or geography, through migration.
The founding Clubs of the Celtic League are TFS, Ulster, Brittany, and the Isle of Man. We had a soft launch last week and already have 22 Admin Club members. We are hugely encouraged by this initial response.
We are actively recruiting new Clubs, and the 2026 Celtic League Prologue Tournament is Open for Registration.
The number of Divisions and the number of Clubs in each Division will be determined once registration closes on 31st May. All Divisions play a Round Robin tournament with one league match per month.
The fixture list will be published in June. Round 1 of the Prologue will start in July.
From 2027 onwards, clubs will be allocated to Divisions based on their finishing positions in the previous season. Clubs in the top positions will be promoted, and those in the bottom positions will be relegated.
