Dear Silverdale Chess Club Friends and Families,
Springing forward this week by adding an extra hour of Daylight Savings Time to our chess clocks, we were pleased to submit the results of our first USCF rated tournament to the US Chess Federation. If you missed the early, 12-noon start time last week, we hope you will attend another tournament in the not-too-distant future.
The four-round, Rapid chess event (G30+5), was designated as the first Dan Marshall Memorial Chess Tournament in honor of our chess book library donor.
The 16-player event welcomed three players from the Des Moines Chess Club on the mainland, including one very friendly canine.
In the end, the winner of the tournament was also the owner of the guest canine and the president of the Des Moines Chess Club, Mr. Matthew Duran. The Top Junior trophy went to George Judd.
A crossable of the tourney, including projected performance ratings, has been promised by Allen Brown.
Photos of the winners appear below. Incidentally, young George has been taking chess lessons via distance learning from a chess coach based in the country of Ukraine. Ukraine is a proud chess country with many top players. The distant outpost is one that is near and dear to our hearts.
Speaking of chess books and publications, we may have a special visitor from Kirkland arriving at the Club this Saturday (presuming the ferries are running on time.) Harry Brenniman is donating what he claims is every printed copy of Chess Life & Review magazine for the past 35 years!
We plan on creating a new tournament where the magazines will be awarded in sets, either by year or other criteria. In the meantime, a cross section of the magazines will be placed on the games table at Moment Brewing. You can actually relive chess history through this rare archival collection.
See you at the Club!
