Dear Silverdale Chess Club Friends & Families,

Did you know that more books have been written about Chess than all other sports combined?

That's not all that surprising when you consider the myriad of categories in the chess publishing world.

  1. Opening Theory

    • Books focused on specific chess openings and their variations.
  2. Middle Game Strategy

    • Guides on tactics, strategies, and positional play in the middle game.
  3. Endgame Techniques

    • Instruction on endgame principles, specific endgame scenarios, and strategies.
  4. Tactics and Puzzles

    • Collections of tactical puzzles and exercises to improve calculation skills.
  5. Annotated Games

    • Books featuring famous games with commentary and analysis by strong players.
  6. Biographies and Autobiographies

    • Life stories of famous chess players and their contributions to the game.
  7. Chess History

    • Exploration of the history and evolution of chess, including notable events and players.
  8. Chess Psychology

    • Insights on the psychological aspects of playing chess, including mindset and preparation.
  9. Chess Theory and Philosophy

    • Books discussing the underlying principles and philosophies of chess.
  10. Training Manuals

    • Resources aimed at helping players improve their skills through structured training programs.
  11. Children’s Chess Books

    • Introductory books designed for younger audiences to learn chess in an engaging way.
  12. Chess Software and Technology

    • Guides on using chess software, engines, and online platforms for improvement.
  13. Tournament Play

    • The games played in famous tournaments along with strategies and advice specifically for participating in chess tournaments
The Silverdale Chess Club is compiling a cross-section of that corpus and recently came into a donated collection of chess books from the estate of Dan Marshall estate and an enormous archive of Chess Life magazines that contain every issue dating back over 35 years!  Thank you Henry Brenniman!
This week the Silverdale Chess Club Book Mobile Library will make its debut at Moment Brewing.

To check out a book or magazine, just add your name and phone along with the date and title of the books or magazines you choose to borrow to the clipboard that will be accompanying the Chess Mobile wagon at the Club on Saturdays. A limit of five chess books and magazines will be in effect.

We hope you will peruse the titles that are on display each week and take advantage of this unique lending library.

Happy Reading!

Larry S.
