Time to Get Back on Track

Greetings everyone!

I believe it's time to realize that anything regarding serious longer games (30|30, 45|45 or 90|30) online is impossible without the players agreeing on suitable day / time to play. There are so many logical reasons why this is so that naming all of them is practically useless. Here I will just point out two (2) of them, that is, the two main ones.

  • It is impossible to reach a high number of players with longer game tournaments at fixed time. This is so because a certain player may be able to play at a certain time on a certain day, but only at that time during that particular day. Thus if a certain tourney starts just 15 minutes before (or after), that player will unfortunately not be available to participate.
  • Playing a G45+45, for instance, takes time. It means that the players need to reserve a 3 hour time slot for just one game. That 3 hour time slot may be available on some days, or during a certain part of some days. If a tournament takes place outside of those time slot, then the player will likely not play.

In the system that I am proposing, the paired players need to agree upon a mutual suitable starting time for a longer LIVE game. Thus, the players will simply fine tune their starting time so that they actually have a game. That is the one and only system that has stood the test of time regarding longer LIVE games. Some of you already know what I am referring to. My aim is to get you and others back at playing serious, longer LIVE games.

What we need to know right now is who is willing to play, who is willing to be serious and follow some rules so that the system works. You need to have played at least 100 rapid game on Chessdotcom. We also want to know who would be willing to contribute in our efforts to keep the longer games running on Chessdotcom.

Here are the sections:

  • 1900 & +
  • 1500 - 1899
  • 1200 - 1499
  • 900 - 1199
  • 0-899

I am not sure right now if we will go for a SWISS pairing system or choose a QUAD format. We'll see.

Let me know!

Best Regards,

Sylvain Courtemanche
