Upcoming Thematic Team Matches

Hello all!

Lately I've been brainstorming for ways to make it fun for the members here at The Learning Center to actually learn something. My solution to this situation is to start some thematic team matches, but these won't be your everyday main line openings, these will be less common openings that aren't seen much at higher levels of play, but are still very playable and fun!

The first match will be featuring the Center Game (see diagram below). Why did I pick this opening? Well simply because one of the common themes in this opening is to castle on opposite sides of the board. Which is a theme that I believe is very important to learn.

The second match will be featuring the Ruy Lopez: Morphy Defense, Cozio Defense (see diagram below). This one I picked because it should teach you how to defend in a very solid position. Also it should teach you how to attack when your opponent is on the defense.

The third and finale match will be featuring the Paulsen variation of the Vienna Game (see diagram below). This is a very positional opening, and should help you to learn how to capitalize on your advantages.

I hope is that you all will be able to learn something from these different themes and apply it in your games in the future.

But, I don't want to start the team matches and have nobody join, so before I start these matches I'm going to need at least 4 players to commit to playing in each match. So please let me know in the comments if you are willing to play.

Also, in case you are wondering, the time control will be 3 days per move, and the games will be rated.
