Congratulations to the Viking Chess Club for winning the first school-versus-school online chess match in Pinellas history on April 13.  Our Bishop (club secretary) Curtis Johnson, Peter Zylman, King (club president) Nick Warren, and Rook (club treasurer) Charles Moegling battled valiantly against the Hollins HS Royals Chess Club, with club Sergeant at Arms Calvin Moegling providing backup.  The Vikings prevailed 4.5 – 3.5, with kudos to Curt for battling a highly rated opponent on Board 1, to Nick for a two-game sweep of his opponent, to Charles for splitting his games, and to Peter for drawing the last game of the match on Board 2 to ensure a team victory.

In addition to making history, this match served as a test-bed for a Pinellas County high school chess league next year which will feature matches played on chess.com.  NEHI is becoming a pioneer of Pinellas County scholastic chess!
