Weekly events, new admins, and a 2000-member celebration event
Weekly events
Due to the ongoing pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, chess.com has changed their Titled Tuesday schedule to a weekly event. By popular demand, we are following suit.
However, we recognise that many people are unable to play every week. As a result, the tournament on the first Tuesday of the month and the event on the following Saturday will be major tournaments, while the weekly events on the other Tuesdays will be minor events. There will be points on offer for the annual leaderboard at all tournaments, but it will be heavily weighted towards the major tournaments. If you are only able to make it to one tournament per month, please try to come to the major tournament!
Full details of the points system can be found in here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/event-history-and-leaderboard-2020
We will stick with a single Saturday tournament, as before, on the Saturday following the first Tuesday of the month.
We will be posting reminders before the tournaments as before, but we may drop the reminder before the regular weekly event once people are used to the schedule and only post reminders before the major tournaments.
The Untitled Tuesday events have been at 3:30 PM Pacific Time, which is 23:30 UTC during the winter and 22:30 UTC during the summer (since Pacific Time shifts for Daylight Savings Time in the U.S. but UTC does not). Titled Tuesday has been shifted three hours earlier, however, so we could shift Untitled Tuesday three hours earlier too. That would be very helpful for those in Europe who would like to play, but would hurt those in North America who might still be working, and those in eastern Asia who would now be getting up in the middle of the night instead of merely getting up early. For now, we'll stick with the current schedule, but I would be interested in hearing people's opinions on moving earlier.
Our first weekly event will be this Tuesday, the 21st, at 22:30 UTC. Time zone converter link: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Untitled+Tuesday&iso=20200421T2230
We will follow our standard time control of three minutes with one second increment.
New Admins
To help with the workload of running the additional tournaments, we have several new admins: @SmyslovFan, @StealthNight, @stevis5, and @qalimz. Thank you for volunteering to help!
2000 member celebration tournament
I haven't been able to send invites out as consistently over the last year as I used to do, so growth has slowed down somewhat. However, we've still seen people coming in, and we recently hit the 2000 member milestone. It's therefore time for another celebratory tournament.
We will play next Saturday, April 25th, at 17:00 UTC. Time zone converter link: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Untitled+Tuesday&iso=20200425T1700. We will post a reminder the day before.
We will use a time control of five minutes, with no increment. There will be ten rounds.
There will be no leaderboard points on offer.
