Dear Chess Friends!

Most players are taught to count material. A pawn is a pawn. A piece is a piece. But strong players know that sometimes a single square can be worth more than a pawn.

A knight anchored on an untouchable outpost. A weak square your opponent can never control. A protected central stronghold that paralyzes the entire enemy position.

In my new workshop, “Strong Squares: When a Square Is Worth More Than a Pawn”, we will focus on one of the most important positional concepts in chess: outposts and square control.

🗓 Date: 02/15
⏰ Time: 11 a.m. EST, 4 p.m. UK time, 5 p.m. CET

In this session, you'll learn:

  • What a true strong square (outpost) really is — and how to recognize one
  • Why a knight on a protected square can dominate the entire board
  • When it makes sense to sacrifice material to secure a powerful outpost
  • How to create weak squares in your opponent’s camp
  • Why fighting for key squares often matters more than material
  • How strong players turn square control into long-term strategic domination

We’ll also discuss practical decision-making over the board:

  • Can your opponent chase your piece away?
  • Does your outpost create lasting pressure — or just temporary activity?
  • Is there real counterplay for your opponent?

Why should you attend?
If you’ve ever felt that your opponent’s knight was “impossible to deal with,” or if you’ve won material but still felt worse, this workshop will fundamentally improve your positional understanding.

See you at the workshop,
