Gaps for First Place! (LWL 26 Wk. 2 Update)
We’re halfway through the Late Winter League season, where the playing field has nearly doubled from round one! We grew from 10 players to 18! The USCF section alone grew to 12 players, meaning the prize fund has grown to $50 for first place, and $40 for second!
(Late entrants still welcome! To register: CCC LWL 26 Registration Form)
Also! A quick reminder that the 12th Annual Salt Lake Open is this Saturday! I will be playing in the U1700 and seeing what happens
. Hope to see you there!
Round Two Recap - USCF Section:
| Rank | Player Name | Rating (USCF) | Total Score |
|
1 |
Tate Alexander |

2 |
In the USCF section, we have Tate Alexander and Calder Feinstein in first place, leading the pack in their first USCF-rated league! Calder was able to take out Trey Opp, putting Trey in third with 1/3 points, alongside Yuun Kim and Daniel Avila. This means that Trey, Yuun, and Daniel are all tied for third and must win their next two games to have a chance at first place.
It won’t be easy, as Tate held their own and won against Anthony Thompson, who is planning on a BYE this round. This would tie Anthony for second place with Lenden Rhodes at 1.5/3 points after round three. With both Anthony and Lenden in this position, they’re sure to bring a challenge to anyone trying to pass them and win.
Round Two Recap - Community Section:

We also have our Community section, where we have Donald Lewis sitting just above the rest with 1.5/3 points in first place, but followed by Connor Park, who’s sitting in second with 1/3 points themselves!

Round Two Games: (CCC LWL 26 Game Collection)
First, we have Calder Feinstein vs. Trey Opp, a game where Calder was able to pick apart weaknesses in the position to win their game:
We then have Oliver Shreeve vs. Daniel Avila, where both sides start off playing a little too safe, until Daniel take some chances to storm their pawns towards Oliver's castled king to win the game:
We also have a house game between myself (Daniel Munoz), playing against late entrant, Joshua Humphreys. In our game, I played too sloppy, allowing Josh to take advantages my mistakes, leading to some risky play to sneak away with a win in the endgame:
