In the fight for first in the USCF section, we have the return of Trey Opp, after four months away from competition, tied with Tate Alexander and Calder Feinstein, who are both competing in their first USCF-rated league ever! Also in first, we have Anthony Thompson, who received a full-point BYE due to an odd number of players during round one pairings, and played a house game with late-entrant and first-timer, Colin Parker, which ended after Colin played big risks in a drawn endgame, giving Anthony the win.
Colin Parker received a half-point BYE as a late entrant and is tied in second with Lenden Rhodes and Michal Personick, joining the league in round two. In third, we have newcomers Oliver Shreeve, Daniel Avila, and Derek Pennington, looking to join the pack here in round two.

Game Analysis:
In the house game between Colin Parker and Anthony Thompson, Anthony played a solid game but missed some major tactical and strategic chances. The game was almost drawn under time pressure, but Colin gave Anthony control of the endgame and went on to win.
And at board three, Derek Pennington played against Calder Feinstein in an aggressive game from both sides, where Calder shares his notes after playing almost mistake-free until blundering a winning position on move 18, allowing a window for Derek to fight back. Unfortunately, Calder was able to recover and finish off their opponent, with checkmate on move 29.
