As the Let’s Castle chess club’s 2025 season, running January 1 to December 31, barrels toward its climax, the race for Player of the Year is heating up. With the final major daily online tournament, the 2025 Shocktober Tournament, kicking off September 30, and the Let’s Castle OTB Classical Championship set for November 8, five nominees stand out: @Schevalierchess
, @Ydtd
, @J_Santiago
, @Machine1963
, and @Moekillz
. The award, announced January 3, 2026, weighs over-the-board (OTB) titles at 50%, daily online titles at 40%, Player of the Week awards at 5%, and online blitz and rapid titles at 2.5% each. After crunching the numbers, @Ydtd, the “Bogeyman,” emerges as the frontrunner—but the race is tight, and the final stretch could shake things up.

@Ydtd, the four-time defending Player of the Year (2021–2024), has been a juggernaut. He clinched two major daily online titles: the 2025 Let’s Castle Championship Tournament (17-1-0) and the 2025 Independence Day Tournament (10-0-0), showcasing near-flawless play. His nine Player of the Week awards this season—a club high—include a standout sweep against @J_Santiago in the IDT finals, securing his 12th daily title. Add three online rapid titles, and @Ydtd’s resume screams dominance, though he lacks an OTB title, the heaviest-weighted category.

@J_Santiago is hot on his heels, wielding the 2025 Let’s Castle OTB Blitz Championship (11.5/16) for major points. His staggering 18 online blitz titles—a season record—pair with two online rapid titles and four Player of the Week awards, including a 2-0 sweep over @RaccoonLover in a recent team match. While he’s yet to snag a daily online title, his OTB prowess and blitz haul make him a serious threat, especially if he grabs the classical title in November
.

@Schevalierchess made waves with a perfect 14-0-0 in the 2025 Happy New Year Tournament, the season’s first major daily online event, earning one title and two Player of the Week awards. His  flawless performance is a strong foundation, but without OTB titles or additional weekly honors, he trails  the leaders.

@Machine1963’s perfect 7/7 in the 2025 Let’s Castle OTB Rapid Championship is a heavyweight achievement, carrying maximum weight in the top category. However, with no daily titles, weekly awards, or online titles mentioned, his bid hinges on further success in the remaining events.

@Moekillz, the “Dominican assassin,” boasts four Player of the Week awards, including a 4-1 week (September 7–13) with wins over @Sumit0000Suman and @IgorGimenez, plus one online rapid title. Without OTB or daily titles, though, he’s outpaced by the top contenders.

The 2025 Shocktober Tournament and OTB Classical Championship could flip the script. A daily title for @J_Santiago or an OTB classical win for @Machine1963, @Moekillz or @Schevalierchess could challenge @Ydtd’s lead. For now, the Bogeyman’s shadow looms large, but Let’s Castle’s warriors are ready to battle. Who’ll claim the crown? The board will decide!
