@Ydtd Sweeps @J_Santiago in 2025 IDT Finals, Clinches 12th Daily Title
In the decisive second game of the 2025 Independence Day Tournament (IDT) finals on Chess.com, @Ydtd, the indomitable “Bogeyman,”
defeated @J_Santiago
in a Closed Sicilian Defense: Grand Prix Attack, securing a 2-0 sweep and his 12th Let’s Castle daily title on September 19, 2025.
This victory will no doubt bolster his campaign for a fifth consecutive Player of the Year award.
The game opened with 1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 Nc6 3. f4 d6 4. Nf3,
setting up the Grand Prix Attack. @J_Santiago’s 5. a3 was an early inaccuracy, and @Ydtd’s 10… O-O-O was a mistake, giving @J_Santiago chances. However, the turning point came on move 22 when @J_Santiago’s 22. dxc5 was a blunder,
allowing @Ydtd to stabilize with 22… dxc5
and seize control. @Ydtd’s precise 25… Qxb5
and 31… Bd5
dismantled @J_Santiago’s position, and by move 37, @Ydtd’s 37… Re2 invaded, forcing a knight trade and a crushing rook capture on h2.
Despite @J_Santiago’s valiant resistance, @Ydtd’s endgame mastery led to a pawn promotion on move 68,
prompting resignation by move 72.
This dominant performance, with a 10-0-0 tournament record, adds another jewel to @Ydtd’s crown, now boasting 12 daily titles, including past triumphs like the 2021 Shocktober (17-0-3) and 2024 LCCT (21-1-0). @J_Santiago, despite the loss, showed fight and remains a key player in Let’s Castle’s team battles. With @Moekillz and @eledef07 also pushing for weekly honors, @Ydtd’s sweep sets a high bar—his Bogeyman legend grows stronger!
