Many Bridges to Burn

Many Bridges to Burn

The game I will show you today was played in the first round; and I was playing against the top seed of the tournament, the highly creative  Armenian super grandmaster Tigran L Petrosian. I am presenting this game because it's important in chess to understand how far you can burn your bridges. I mean: it's very important to take risks, but you must understand how far you can go. In this game black tries too hard to win by sacrificing a pawn but underestimates white's threats. Black was ''over-optimistic'' about his chances.

The main motto of showing this game was to make the readers understand the over-optimism of black which was the main reason for his own loss. Ask yourself this: do you tend to burn your bridges? Too often? Do you eschew natural moves like 20...Kh7 in favor of balancing on a high wire?
