Hey, chess lovers! We have some fun stuff to report this month, including one brand-new and long-awaited feature, finally hitting beta. Let's jump right in and see what happened in February 2021...

WebArrows and highlights

  • Updated board markings and highlight/arrow colors.
  • Refactoring and improvements to all Friend pages.
  • Many more improvements to our interface to enjoy when you use the Events feature to observe games!
  • Fixed a broken link in our notification emails for "New Unread Post."
  • Lots of chessboard bug-fixes, performance tweaks, and other improvements.
  • Refactored & improved several things on the member Home screen, including the Daily Games panel.
  • More UI/style improvements for Club pages.
  • Improved Game of the Day widget on Home & Chess Today.Vs Computer
  • Fixed a configuration issue that caused Vs Computer engine levels (i.e. levels 1-25) to keep playing the same openings over and over.
  • Updated Stockfish used in Analysis, Play, and Events to newest version.
  • Master Games list now shows final positions when you hover over a game.
  • Club admins now have the option to display their Clubs' member-list to members only.
  • Likewise improved functionality of option for private Club Notes.
  • Chat in Live Tournaments is now open to observers as well as players.
  • In Live, if you are reviewing the moves of a game you observed, you won't get interrupted if the player you are following starts a new game.
  • Refactored some styles used on Stats pages.Play Online
  • Made improvements to the process by which Explorer imports Daily games.
  • Improved the experience of using a URL to follow players in Live, including adding a "toaster" pop-up to let you know it was successful.
  • Added 1-2 upcoming tournaments to the Play Online screen.
  • Improved mobile versions of Home, Profile and Lessons pages.
  • Fixed a few bugs in Messages, one which interpreted an empty "To" field by just sending to the last person you messaged - and another with deleting messages.
  • Fixed a bug in Analysis in which suggestion arrows showed up when retrying positions in Key Moments... Too helpful!
  • Increased our capacity to process cheating reports.
  • Limited Clubs' active outgoing Vote Chess seeks to five, to prevent spamming.
  • Improved ability to resize the board in Daily Chess.
  • Last but not least, we put the finishing touches on the brand-new Library feature - which is now in Beta! Library allows you to curate collections of games from anywhere and everywhere! Check out the Beta announcement. (This feature will be more widely released very soon!)

  • 49,621 accounts closed for abuse.

  • Average time to first response:  5 days, 19 hours.
  • Total support responses: 49,109.
  • Average quality by member rating: 90% "Great" or better.
