Karpov-Kasparov World Championship 1985 (Game 1)

After the controversial 1984 match, a rematch for the World Championship between the world's two finest players - Garry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov was set for 1985 with the player getting the most points in 24 games being the champion. If the game ended 12-12, the championship would go to Karpov as he is the reigning world champion.

The colors would be alternated in every game and Kasparov was White for Game 1.

And so, Kasparov started where he left off at the ned of the controversial 1984 game. Karpv tried to be aggressive in the opening but Kasparov used it against him and came up with a big advantage in developement. In the middlegame he coverted this developmental advantage to a material one by winning a pawn. He then created a passed pawn and brought his King and Rooks to support it and eventually when Karpov realised that it was not stoppable, he resigned.

So, after Game 1, Kasparov leads 1-0.
