This game is about one line of the Queen's Indian Defense. White is Garry Kasparov. He was born April 13, 1963 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He won the world championship in 1985 from Anatoly Karpov. He was FIDE champion until 1993 when he split with FIDE. Many still considered him to be the classical or traditional or linear world champion. He lost his title to Vladimir Kramnik in 2000. He was the top rated player from 1986 until retiring in 2005. Black is Lajos Portisch. He was born April 4, 1937 in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. Portisch was a candidate for the world championship eight times and Hungary's champion eight times. Today is Portisch's 72th birthday. In nine days, Kasparov will be 46, the same age Portisch was when this game was played.
