I am a newbie and old person, so an "Old Newbie"! What a horrible combination. A new technology and a poor comprehension/memory. How can a combination be any worse. Well, albeit, let's go forth...

ChessBase 11, or any version, is touted as a stand alone chess database software. It is designed supposedly, to help you store your games, find good alternative or supportive moves/variations from a huge database of master games, log/create/build an opening repertoire, utilize chess engines to help analyze games, offer updated databases, and even offer "Hot" variations to your repertoire.

I just finished my 5th OTB tourney and want to utulize ChessBase for its worth. I am ready to input games and begin the learning.

So, enter games on the "board"? Save? Set up a database name, like LOTS XXVII? Or, since I have played in the last five or six years of LOTS, set up a database named OTB games or keep it individual per tourney?

They should be pgn files, right? I want to "analyze" these games, first with my thoughts before I send to an engine. How is that best completed?

Alright, enough for now...this forum is just getting started.
