We are primarily a local chess club from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, that uses our Chess.com club to keep our members informed. To play in our Club events, you must be there by 6:30 pm -- not a minute later. Otherwise you will have to play someone else who is late or someone who has declined to participate in competitive chess. Not everyone comes to compete but most do.

If you are mainly an online chess player from Canada or from a time zone not greater than 4 hours to the east or west of Atlantic Canada (-4 UTC), you are also welcome to join our online club.

Join us if you are from any of the following locations: North America as far as the Pacific Coast, Central and South America, Caribbean Islands, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, western European countries with an Atlantic coastline, and northwest African countries with an Atlantic coastline.

Our club meets weekly from 6 to 9 pm every Tuesday, including the summer months, and free visitor parking is available to club members. Instructions to help you find our building and club room are provided in the following images. Our club membership is free and open to chess players of all ages and skills. Visitors are always welcome! The Club has its own supply of chess sets and digital clocks for your games. Play casually, enter one of our active or ongoing tournaments, or just come and watch.

The Bluenose Chess Club operated in Halifax for many decades before moving to its current location at NSCC (Nova Scotia Community College) in Dartmouth. Although the exact date that it was established is unknown, some of our club’s “lost history” has been recovered by David Kenney, an organizer of the club since 1974. Information about the history of our club since the 1960s is provided at the end of this post.
