Too many who describe themselves as "african-american chess players" have (IMO) abondoned any sence of real nationalism for what is essentially an imitation and validation of eurocentric cultural norms. Shogi will probably be THE next game played at places like Dupont Circle for us. Let's pursue This game with the mindset of unashamedly fowarding ourselves as African (period), while we respect what is a Japanese game.
