I said I would ask the admins. His account @TooManyBlunders was closed for Fair Play Violation, Cops probably knows more of the detail around that than anyone as they noticed the closure and we discussed it in PMs.

Really interested in opinions. At first my reaction was like

HECK no we can't dismiss the 3 month wait before joining this club, ESPECIALLY for my friend in real life. & especially for someone that cheated.

But then I started considering the situation differently. I mean he never denied that he cheated, sounds like it might have been only in Daily (that was his inference in texts to me) and he was under huge pressure to get a job and graduate and well he said that maintaining 2050 in Daily games had become a huge stress for him. He also might have been stuck in my city for month over that time during a hard lockdown while his family was up north, not sure, but yeh there was a lot going on.

He was the president of the Canterbury University Chess Club, for years I think, still might be am unsure, a social guy (for a chess player, at least as regards chess and discussions anyway) and has certainly helped me probably more than anyone else in terms of energy into my chess.

SO yeh I told him I would ask you the admin group, and he didn't seem to bat an eyelid at that, and yeh. He does seem to know a huge amount about end games and has done a bit of a Mea Culpa which let's face it is kind of refreshing. He has also contributed very helpfully to this club especially in forums iirc.

So.

Am asking on his behalf kind of, he asked me for an invite

and instantly I texted well I would have to ask the other admins. and am really curious about all of your reactions. I used to think if I was ever a politician I could never be corrupt, but am starting to see how grey rules can become.

I feel like I have no real skin in the game here so any reaction is fine. He is still turning up to chess club in my city in real life, and has the respect and support of some of our best kiwi players for yeh am not sure just his chess knowledge and study I guess. He seems to be only about 21 years old.

Perhaps we could even say to him, yesss, we will let you in because of your age and love of chess but you can't play vote chess or something. I don't know. Thoughts?
