Sicilian Dragon Tournament Review

Sicilian Dragon Tournament Review

LeeEuler | Apr 14, 2021
First of all, congrats to the medalists:  1st- @zionRSG 2nd- @LeeEuler tied for 3rd- @chOkO08 and @benbre8ssy There were some interesting games for sure. Most people went for the Yugoslav as white, playing f3, castling long, and aligning the queen bishop battery to h6 in order to trade off black's dragon bishop and pawn storm on toward the king. This was the philosophy of Bobby Fischer who famously said, "I don't believe in dragons" and that one key to beating it was to open up the h-file...
Euler's International Chess Club March Match Review

Euler's International Chess Club March Match Review

LeeEuler | Mar 31, 2021
Alright guys, looking like we got the short end of the stick in our March matchup even with a few games still going on. Not especially surprising considering the ratings mismatch (maybe next time I will reduce to under a 1500 rating? Let me know what you think). There was one bright spot in a game I managed to win against a higher rated player in the King's Indian Defense. The game really showed the strength of black's minor pieces as the bishops were  killer and black's knight executed a lo...

Hope to see you guys in our fourth monthly tournament (registration here: https://www.chess.com/tournament/eulers-all-openings-4-benoni-defense). The tournament is scheduled to start on Apr. 4th or when 25 people register, whichever comes first. While our membership is still low (feel free to invite any of your friends to join, all are welcome), I have opened the registration to all of chess.com rather than just our club and so far 14 have entered. The theme this time is the Benoni. Again in...

Monthly Schedule For The Club

Monthly Schedule For The Club

LeeEuler | Feb 14, 2021
Here is what I am thinking for a monthly schedule: 1) First week of month: start a themed daily tournament. I will send reminders about registration about a week before the start as well as a day before the start. The tournaments will alternate opening moves for black and white. While our club is still small, I will make the tournament available to all of chess.com. 2) Middle of the month: start a team match. I will try to match us up with other clubs of a similar rating range to keep thing...
