Do I have to know anything about Chess to join?

No!

But to really appreciate the club, it's best to learn the game. Chess.com is a great site to do just that. Once you become a member (free with your email address), Join our LCHS Chess Club and then start taking the free lessons under the "Learn" section on the left-hand side of the screen! It will walk you through each piece and some basic strategy. We're all here to learn, and, you can go at your own speed and become good in a short amount of time!
Do the puzzles if you already know how to play. You can get really good just by trying out the daily puzzle section on the website.

When and how do we meet?

We'll get together for regular meetings only once per month in room 204 or via the LCHS Chess Club Team Meet area. But we play our game challenges through Chess.com. The Tournament Director will assign challenges and then you can play. We'll have both long games and quicker Blitz games available.

How much is the club?

$15 for the entire year. This helps pay for the website fees and prizes to participants.

What if I can't make a meeting?

No problem, we'll just catch you online the next time. You can always play others online anytime you want by arranging it with one of the club members. You can also play the general population outside the Chess club (people from around the world), and be confident it's a safe but challenging environment!

Is there anything I need to know as a member?

Be respectful at all times with those across the table from you (whether it's real or virtual). No one likes brash, mouthy and rude players. Any club member violating the respect rule will put their club membership in jeopardy. If you prefer, you can turn off the Chat feature while playing.
Never, ever cheat. Virtual games require a trust between players that you won't rely on using another program to gain ANY type of advantage on another player. If players believe you are doing such things, and they are proven right, it is a fall from grace from which you cannot recover. INTEGRITY IS A PRECIOUS COMMODITY THAT WE MUST ALL PROTECT. NEVER, EVER CHEAT.

Whether you win or lose, when in a Virtual game, extend a message to the other player by typing "Good Game", or "Thanks for the Good Game". It is always appreciated.
