A short while ago it was the 50th birthday of Jennifer Connelly. Born in Cairo in the Catskill Mountains in the southeast of New York, she grew up in Brooklyn Heights apart from four years in Woodstock, New York. Starting off as a child model, she was selected as a young dancer by Sergio Leone for Once Upon a Time in America 1984, which impressed many. She was enrolled at Yale, but transferred after two years to Stanford, training in classical theatre & improvisation. She also became known for Labyrinth 1986 playing the young Sarah opposite David Bowie and went on to The Rocketeer 1991, Mulholland Falls 1996, Requiem for a Dream 2000 before winning an Oscar & BAFTA & Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in A Beautiful Mind 2001, where she also met her husband Paul Bettany.
