Beginning Saturdays in May of 2012, a new erra for chess begins in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Sports for the mind. USCF rated events, lectures, simuls, and much much more. www.phoenixchess.org The purpose of the Metro Phoenix Chess Club is to provide a forum in which chess players of all ages and skill levels can exercise their talents and develop into chess players of excellent caliber and character, and to promote the study and knowledge of chess; not only for fun and enjoyment, but also as an art form, and as a means for the improvement of society. In addition, we aim to provide the metro Phoenix area with a "quality" venue for weekly  chess playing consisting of fee based tournament chess (Saturdays)  and free casual chess (Fridays), we will host occassional annual 2-day and 3-day weekend open USCF tournaments, and provide small group chess lessons. We strive for chess excellence here at the Metro Phoenix Chess Club ( MPCC ), a not-for-profit organization. "Work on your Game Friday Nights" , a casual event, has started effective February 2012. This meet-up is all about informal games, impromptu lessons, slow and speed chess. This is a family friendly chess meet-up in a warm, quiet and friendly atmosphere with the pleasant and familiar smell of good coffee. Meeting at Corner Bakery Cafe in Peoria, Arizona. 16222 North 83rd Avenue Peoria, AZ 85382  from 6pm - 9pm. Coming soon this May 2012: Weekly Saturday USCF rated tournaments. Different formats and a variety of events are planned. See the club calendar on our website www.phoenixchess.org. We will be meeting at the elegant InnPlace Hotel (cottonwood room 2nd floor ) along the Interstate 17 corridor between Dunlap and Peoria Ave in the Metrocenter Mall area. The hotel has a skittles room, lounge, restaurant/bar, and patio.  Club sets are provided (including clocks) but bring yours just in case.  You will need your set to analyze and play skittles games outside of the tournament room. It is our desire to put an end to the fractured chess scene in the valley and develop a cohesive organization that provides everything chess.
