yes online is very different to OTB i've never been one to shy away from a battle but anyone that knows me knows i'm thinking it's a waste of time to jump into a tournament just to get hammered by experienced players. I'm telling you you'd attract more "new players" into OTB if you had a section for inexperienced players
I have never played and will likely only ever play otb 5 times in my lifetime (its just a number I plucked up) I get no chance to play regularly otb so I want to be able to enjoy the experience not face a bunch of players who have that experience
Same amount of time here, I began by losing many games to players graded 60-70 on club nights, eventually got invited to play a C-team match, and went on from there.
don't think like that! You're a decent player! And there's unfortunatly nothing we can do about the experience thing, unless there are lots of people who feel a seperate OPEN section for inexperienced players is right for this tournament. Opinions please guys!
Yes but you are misunderstanding me ... these kinds of prizes will never be available to me because 1. I have n o experience and 2 I will be playing against players that are gonna thrash me ...
donna: A nightmare for an arbiter is to have a group of 10 people in a 5 round swiss. This is my estimate for amount of chess.com members who have never played otb before. Another thing donnna, is that we have to all start playing otb somewhere. And even if you don't get a great score (my 1st 2 congresses i got 0/5) the experience you get is incredible. Besides, there will be membership and t-shirts for lots of grading prizes, that erik is donating, which means we could have a prize for best 1st
Come on people I have never played otb how am I going to find it easier? I want the experience of trying but what use is it to me if I face continually higher rated players?
From what I've heard, i reckon we might have 25 people per section. If we do get this amount of people, then sections will be decided based on chess.com rating and bottom half will player in lower section. Then top section will be the open. And Donna, OTB chess you'll find easier than online chess, you'll see a lot more tactics and plans OTB, and in swiss you play people who are doing as well as you, so later on you'll get some equal games. I'll be the arbiter, and remind people to hit their clo
