Our first U1300 fixture is open for registration: https://www.chess.com/club/matches/northern-knights/1930685 and our first U1600 will be open soon. We're in the same divisions as last year, D4 for U1300, D3 for U1600. We came very close to promotion in the U1600, lost out on tiebreak, so there's a decent chance for us there this year.

Good to see we've got over the line in our R2 fixture vs Lancashire after CbDur21 achieved a winning pawn endgame - we're 14-9 up (13 boards). On the other hand, we've had our backsides handed to us in the R3 match vs Beds-Northants and are already defeated, being 13-2 down (12 boards).

I would be up for playing more games for this club. Seems like that league would have a lot of overlap with the counties as Ireland is already included - perhaps they'll get a Brittany team as well!

We've received an invitation to join the Celtic League (apparently the qualification criteria are fairly loose...). It would be one fixture a month starting July 2026, so potentially a couple more club games for everyone each month (open rating, so far as I know). Are we enthusiastic or do we think we've got enough league matches?

Haha! I just noticed it had gone from the ongoing games. In the other two league games:
Lancashire - we lead 11-8 (first to 13.5) & have a good chance of taking the match
Beds-N'hants - we trail 4-1 (first to 12.5) & are massively outranked so it might be damage limitation

Just finished my pair of games in R1 vs Munster - both particularly interesting games with a knight sac leading to a forced win in one & another knight sac for four pawns when it should've been a rook sac in the other (I benefited from blunders in a drawish position to take the latter). Hope others have had good games. It's currently 10.5-10.5, and we might just have the upper hand in this one...
