For anyone interested in rated chess over the board, we're having a tournament in Red Deer coming up Saturday, 16 May. Check it out here: https://www.chess.com/announcements/view/red-deer-spring-rapid-tournament-2026
Round 9 vs Colorado is starting soon !( 3 day daily match) We have a short bench and most of the team are paying against higher rated opponents. I believe this is the last match of the season. Please consider signing up!
SergusMaximus - most clubs require you to pay club fees to play in their rated tournaments etc - to get an official CFC rating you will need to register with the chess federation of Canada. You can pay for a single tournament, yearly or lifetime memberships with CFC. I just starting playing OTB in rapid time controls last summer and paid fees to the Calgary Chess Club and the CFC. My rating is still provisional, need to play six more games, but you can see your rating on line.
There will be an unrated, rapid tournament to be held in Lacombe, AB Friday, December 12. Prizes available. Details here: https://www.chess.com/announcements/view/upcoming-tournament-christmas-checkmate-cup-in-lacombe
I will be attending the Calgary Summer Rapid event. I need to get to 25 games to shake off the provisional rating. 6 more games needed after the last round of the Calgary Chess Club event on Tuesday.
There will be a Calgary Summer Rapid and Blitz event (similar to the one held in Red Deer) on Sunday, 24 August at the U of C.
