Puffins lose by smallest margin to the Turtles

Puffins lose by smallest margin to the Turtles

ReykjavikPuffins | Feb 1, 2018
Week 3 play saw the Puffins face off against the Ljubljana Turtles. The Turtles featured Luca Lenic coming into this match with an impressive 7.5 out of 8. Turns out we focused on the wrong Luka as Luka Skuhala on board 4 proved to be the hero of the day. Clocking in at a miniscule (compared to the field) 2114 rating, Luka didn't lose a single game and showed resilient defence in all games to score an impressive and unexpected 2.5 out of 4. GM Throstur Thorhallsson shined in his sea...

Puffins defeat the Towers in Week 2

ReykjavikPuffins | Feb 1, 2018
In the 2nd week of the PRO Chess League, the Reykjavik Puffins downed the London Towers in a very tense match where we mangaed to overcome 4/4 by Gawain Jones on the top board. The whole match can be seen here: Some funky and funny clips: Olafsson almost flagged in one game to the immense please of the captain: Bjorn Thorfinnsson was yet again the hero of the day for the Puffins: Despite getting 4/4 out for Gawain showed some fatigue from Tata Steel play:

The 2018 season of the PRO Chess League kicked off on the 18th of January. The Reykjavik Puffins were super excited to be back for this 2nd season of this exciting league that we will believe can and will only go from strength to strength. Our 1st matchup was against the Marseille Migraines In the 2018 season there is no confusion with substitutions so all 4 players of each team will play against each other. The Reykjavik Puffins lineup for the first matchup of the season was as ...

Puffins succumb to Snowballs avalanche - Round 2 report

FM zibbit | Jan 19, 2017
The 2nd round of the PRO Chess league was dubbed rivals week and so naturally the Reykjavik team got paired up with a fellow Nordic team from Stockholm. We have had a love/hate relationship with the Swedes. We used to hate them when they constantly beat us in handball (which used to be the most popular national sport in Iceland along with football...you can guess which one it is these days!)...we called it the "Svíagrýlan" which meant some hump that we just couldn't get over. It was best pers...

Puffin player intros - IM Bjorn Thorfinnsson

Puffin player intros - IM Bjorn Thorfinnsson

ReykjavikPuffins | Jan 18, 2017
IM Bjorn Thorfinnsson is a Reykjavik Puffin and a manager of the team alongside FM Ingvar Thor Johannesson. It is safe to say that Bjorn is a very emotional person and the video, were he is tying the 1st round match against Hamburg Swashbucklers in the final match was considered by many as the highlight of round. Unlike most other members of the Puffins Bjorn was not a very talented junior player and was firmly in the shadow of his younger brother Bragi Thorfinnsson (who is also a member ...
