US Vote Chess League (USVCL) is a new USTCL-sanctioned league that will run from May to November.

Team Rules

While it is our turn to move, players should discuss the available continuations and work to reach a consensus on which move to play. Players are encouraged to provide proposed lines in the team chat to allow for further discussion.
Players should try to avoid voting for a move until there are 24 hours left on our clock. This is to provide enough time to discuss possible continuations to reach the best move.
At the ~24-hour mark, if a consensus is reached, it will be posted in the chat as the preferred move. Players are welcome to continue the discussion after this time.
A player is not bound to voting for the consensus move as long as the move they vote for has been discussed and is not an obvious losing move.
Participating in the discussions is encouraged. If you have an idea, speak up! There are no bad ideas. Voting chess is a great learning opportunity for everyone.

Captains

The match captain will be responsible for guiding the discussion and determining the consensus move based on the discussion. The captain isn't in charge of proposing the best moves, but rather, encouraging discussion. Therefore, rating isn't a limiting factor, but a captain should actively participate in discussions.

The match captain will also be responsible for monitoring the votes after each move to ensure the voting rules are followed. Upon violation, they may send a notice to that player and remind them of the team rules.

Removal of Players

Per USTCL rules, "admins are allowed to remove players at their discretion."

Team Minnesota will implement the following policy to ensure no player is unjustly removed from a match. A player may be removed if they

consistently vote early without any discussion and after receiving a warning not to do so.
consistently voting for moves that have not been discussed.
consistently attempt to sabotage the team by voting for obvious losing moves.
are abusive in discussions

A player will not be removed for the following reasons:

Rating
Participation
Any proposed moves they bring up in discussions. Players should not be intimidated to propose a move.

Vote Chess Fair Play

USVCL policy on cheating:

Cheating is not tolerated! If a player on your team gets banned for Cheating, report it immediately so [league administrators] can discuss the consequence. This will be taken case by case and there isn't a specific punishment for cheating. Please remember that using an [opening] database is legal, but using and chess engine is not.
