One is either right or not, the other can never fully claim to right because something new may alter our views. Truth about reality is the goal we seek to understand, an unchanging story if true will be better than a ever changing story if it can never get it right.

Science is able to figure out which parts of what we think we know we should either let go of completely or amend. Religion doesn't have that mechanism, so whatever it gets wrong, it just goes on getting wrong.

Scientific means doesn't settle questions because it has to allow for corrections to alter our views on any given topic.
