Hi, guys! First, thanks for joining The Flying Saucers. If you're wondering where the name comes from, some of us here in San Antonio like to meet up at The Flying Saucer (yep, the bar!) to have a tasty beverage and go over chess games.

I wanted to create a group on chess.com with players that I've met over the last few years who are good people, fun, and love to play chess. I see this as a venue where we can play team games, discuss openings, and help each other get better. I'm the lowest rated player here on USCF; there is some talent on this team.

So, I'd like to ask that you introduce yourself so everybody get to know each other. I'm hopeful this will be a team where people can actually talk chess and help each other unlike most groups on chess.com. You can participate as much or as little as you like, but since I know all of you, I know that we can help each other get better and have fun while doing it.

So, my name is Bill. I'm an officer in the Army and I absolutely love this game. I'm USCF 1460 right now and am hoping to one day make it to Master level. Why not, right? I love to travel and have been to 58 countries and my goal is to get to 70. Best three that I've visited are Argentina, Australia, and Spain.

I love the Smith Morra Gambit (Bobby Moore taught me) and I've fallen crazy in love with the King's Indian Defense. I'm originally from Alabama, but live in San Antonio, Texas right now. I most recently competed at Millionaire Chess 2 and had an absolute ball...oh, and I love Blitz!
